See Me Run Now You're Gone   Monday 1.28.02 3:59PM by Aaron |
Jay's page (smartass.tv) is now up and fully operational. Let the mullet jokes and bro-rock bashing recommence. My Cultural Anthropology prof is such a goddamn flaming feminist. I'm open-minded, I understand that much of what she says about the role of women is truthful and that it's important that someone convey that information, but seriously, the age of suffragettes is over. The class should be entitled Cultural Anthropology (Women Are Important, Too!). Seems like every point she makes is to clarify some misconception about the role of women in societies (both ancient and modern). I'm not nearly as perturbed by feminists as I used to be (remember Meninists?). I've shifted just a bit to the left since then.
On a whim, I jogged my memory for the URLs to old sites I used to maintain. I found Rebel Covert Ops, which was an organization based on Star Wars online games. Then there's Cell Block 1138, which was supposed to turn out like this one has. Neither ever got anywhere. The Eagle Squad page is gone along with Meninists. I found another one but I really don't want to put the URL because the section of my own shite aside from the main bit (which was part of yet another online game club) is painful for me to read. Not just painful, but embarrassing. It really is awful. So no matter what the public opinion, I'm not linking it.
Realm vs Realm was pretty much shite last night. After the third time I died wihout having done anything productive, I decided to read Ender's Game instead. A lvl 20 Scout has no place in RvR except for recon purposes, and there were those who were much better suited for it. The Hibernians beat the living SHIT out of us last night. And when I was supposedly safely sitting off to the side in stealth mode I got wasted by some Midgard trolls. Yeah, that was a blast. Peter was only slightly more useful than I was - because he's a healer - but he stayed with it even after dying about a dozen times. I wonder if they have support groups for this game yet....
I can nod off in 2 seconds flat when my Roman Civ prof starts comparing and contrasting Etruscan and Greek art, or when my Govt prof decides to give us the necessary historical backdrop on the Federalist perspective of a Unitary Executive, but I get back to my ubersoft bed with flannel covers and an eggcrate and all I can do is stare at the ceiling. Aaron sad.
I'd write up something interesting.... but nah. I think sometime in the next few days I'll peruse ticketmaster and startickets and what not and compose a list of concerts you should all go to. Your life is so hollow if you don't listen to good music.

Jose Cuervo, My Old Friend   Sunday 1.27.02 9:07PM by Aaron |
Slept til 2, tired nonetheless. I wasn't hungover though, thankfully. All I know is I won't be drinking for a while. I feel like I had something of a headfuck over the last couple days, I'm not even sure how or to what extent; all I know is a giant cup of coffee couldn't wake me up in order for me to sufficiently concentrate on my homework.. so here I sit. At least I'm not playing DAoC, unlike my junkie roommates. After I hit up some more coffee from Starbuck's I'll probably be able to get some reading done. For now it's Massive Attack and IM. Speaking of Massive Attack, I'm converting more and more people to the cause. My roommate now really digs Radiohead and MA, Twot is all over the MA, and other people I know are asking for CD's. I'm building an army.
I don't have any real content for you, content meaning articles and other bullshit like that. All I have is typical newspost bullshit. I've gotten varied responses from people concerning the site. Some people say they skim the newsposts and just read what I refer to as "content," and others don't read anything but the newsposts. I guess that means I should continue doing both... Some peeps think the newsposts are funny but we all know it's just bullshit. To me it comes off as a weak attempt to make other people think I have a life, when I really just started it out of boredom and continued when complimented on it. I always think it's sad when people go to great lengths to make people think they're cool, and I don't want people to misunderstand my intentions.
I've gotta go RvR in DAoC for a bit then hit the books again (or rather, attempt to again).

Moving Up Slowly   Wednesday 1.23.02 5:39PM by Aaron |
Why am I such a sucker for blonde chicks?
Anyway, a long-awaited quotes update is aqui. I omitted those related to what we've deemed "The Lou Incident," and instead put them into a very special Vivid story. It's ripe for the ogling, and if you know Louis, the mental pictures are probably far more vivid than anyone intended.
Updates:
Quotes - Quite a few gems
Vivid - The Lou Incident
I was told by a drunken HT Skip that I should monitor what I put on the site because of something to the effect of some of the content being too personal. I'm still confused, and I'm quite sober now. He couldn't be talking about himself because I've never mentioned him, and it can't be me cos I don't care if something's personal. Speaking of drunken, Naz & Amanda's party was awesome. Whack. Twisted. I almost forgot about it cos I was playing my latest computer game affliction, Dark Age of Camelot. Luckily the game crashed and I saw a shiteload of IM windows reminding me about the party. I'll compress it: chandeliers, I have never, "it's making me nazish", "don't jump off the balcony we peed all over the garage", belligerent drunk, broken window, arrest, "is Elliott dead?", and some others I can't think of.
I'm emulating Legolas through one of my DAoC characters. I beat out Jay and Ben for Legolas idolatry. It's all in good fun, I swear. Meanwhile, my roommate is living every geek's fantasy. He's got an easy part-time job (ie less than 20 hrs/wk), a network connection, daoc, and NO CLASSES this semester. Needless to say, his main character has surpassed mine in levels. Several times has he gone more than three days with about 6 hrs sleep. I wouldn't be jealous if I hadn't seen realm vs realm combat in action. It's simply one of the coolest things to hit online games... I shite you not. It's madness of a scale and sophistication that EQ and CS just can't compete with. I'd recommend buying it, but I'm not sure I wanna do that to you. I both love and hate it. It's beautiful. And horrible.
I almost forgot THIS. If you're friends with Jeff, Jordan or their associates, this should be fucking hilarious.
And remember, kids: when in doubt, remember the old bedroom golf saying, "You can't play the back 9 without the course owner's permission."

The most urgent point of this post is this: I and 2 other hardcore niggas on battle.net just got our asses pounded at starcraft by a mere four computers on Big Game Hunters. Start stockpilling water and tidy up the bomb shelter folks, the end is near. The AI was fucking mad that game, despite my being equally mad. I had 108 hydras and killed more aircraft with scourges than ever and my queens had a bloody field day, yet in the end I was completely overwhelmed. I was strategizing and ownagizing all over the place. It was unholy, and now I feel the need to take it back to them in the style of old, that being the style of ALLAAAAAAHHHH as Rocky and I used to play it. We'll take on 5 puters by ourselves and reverse the tide of armageddon. You'll see.
My burner is so, so fly. Plextor is the best and 24x is as fast as it gets. I've been on a burning bender lately. All I've done today is burn stuff and watch football. And starcraft. Just a sidenote: in case you're unaware, all past newsposts are and have always been located in the archives, as indicated below.
Jeff's UPP was a fabulous time. If Jordan can be considered a barometer of sorts indicating how much fun was had, he says to me a few days later "What time did you come?" I tell him I arrived at 7:30, about 30 minutes after they got started. He says he barely remembers talking to me (though we talked many times in the course of the night) and thinks he recalls me asking about DJ Shadow, when I was in fact not the one asking about it cos I know Shadow. See? Who says drugs are bad. I should also mention that Jeff slept in the same bed as a certified GIRL. Kudos. I had to leave early the next morning but I'm told that when everyone woke up it was a wake'n'bake fest. Wish I coulda stayed.
Louis vanished to Louisiana and has yet to resurface. Jay unveiled his masterful lowbrow moment at my mentioning that the situation is classic lowbrow. We all expect Lou to come rolling back in the Neon listening to Geto Boys with a fly ass pinstripe suit, a cigar, and an illegitimate child on the way. If this turns out to be true, Ben would bear the brunt of our aggression henceforth. Somebody help these guys get laid!!
Sarah got me the coolest damned pipe. It's really small and I guess is the drinking equivalent of a shot glass. It comes apart for no apparent reason other than facilitating cleaning. It's really smoove though and it's direct from Amsterdam. Speaking of Sarah, get Blown Away by The Pixies.
I'm sorry but I'm starting to like the Strokes. It's almost like they're starting where Jim Morrison got drunk and fat. My interests in music have mutated and spread into strange varieties. Earlier I listened to Belle and Sebastian, Massive Attack, and At the Drive-In in quick succession. That's very light Scottish music, dark British music, then an El Paso punk band. Call me open-minded or ADD, it matters not.
I've started the U2 concert review but it feels uninspired so far so I may put it off a bit longer. If I get the feeling I'm not properly conveying the feeling of the show I'll start over. I know it's not possible to entirely convey an experience like that but I like to at least make a valiant effort. If any of you hardcore Radioheadheads want cd's with all the b-sides, covers, collaborations, live, and unreleased songs on them, let me know. Otherwise, how are you going to listen to Lift and Follow Me Around in your car?
No editorials this time, sadly. I'm surprised that I've actually gotten props on that Patriotism thing. Apparently my friends aren't like the people I flamed in the editorial. I'll think of other shit to say later.
