Your Word is Your What? by Aaron
No one does what they say they will anymore. This isn't limited only to backing out on big things, but little things too. The big things piss me off more of course. I can't count how many times I've bought concert tickets for several people then had half of em back out right before the fucking show. I've paid $45 a seat for plays and had people cancel at the last minute. This sort of thing is infrequent though.
What really chaps my ass daily is people that just don't do little things that they said they would. I used to only have a few friends whose words I didn't put much faith in, now I only have a few friends that I actually believe when they say they're going to do something. I never hang people out to dry or not call when I said I would so why don't people reciprocate? This is a good example of what happens to nice people. They get shat on. But that subject would take an entire and separate editorial.
I don't really know why I put up with this so frequently. People always have really convenient and elaborate excuses so it's hard to stay mad at them, but still. If I were residing in a town with more people I'd be in a position to yell "Scheiss on you!!" and punch unreliable friends in the throat. As it is, my patience is running out, but my options are limited. Being my friend is a privilege, damnit! Show some respect.
If you can't rely on someone for anything, you should repeat the phrase "Fuck it" to yourself until you no longer give a damn what they do. Blow them off, see how they like it. I adopted a policy sometime within the last year of blunt honesty on ANY subject with a few exceptions for conversations with clergy and law enforcement officials. In fewer words, I rarely lie. Give it a try you long-nosed oak-chested bastards. Your word is very important.
I leave you with a quote:
"All I have in this world is my balls and my word, and I don't break 'em for nobody."
